Bad Luck, Good Luck

October 1st, 2008

An ancient Chinese story:

A farmer had one old horse that he used for tilling his fields. One day the horse escaped into the hills and when all the farmer’s neighbors heard about it, they sympathized with the old man over his bad luck. “Bad luck? Good luck? Who knows?” said the farmer.

A week later, the horse returned with a herd of wild horses from the hills and this time the neighbors congratulated the farmer on his good luck. “Good luck? Bad luck? Who knows?” said the farmer.

A simple Friend

September 29th, 2008

A simple friend, when visiting, acts like a guest. A real friend opens
your refrigerator and helps himself (and doesn’t feel even the least
bit weird shutting your ‘beer/Pepsi drawer’ with her foot!)

A simple friend has never seen you cry. A real friend has shoulders
soggy from your tears..

A simple friend doesn’t know your parents’ first names. A real! friend
has their phone numbers in his address book.

Can I Cope?

September 5th, 2008

To cope with life means you are up to the challenge. Not only so, to cope means you meet the challenge head on. You are equal to the task. But our own inner strength is not enough. We often fail. When we do, we throw our hands in the air and cry, “I can’t cope.”

What is the answer? It is written, “I can do everything through Him who gives me strength.”In other words, “I am able; I can.” The point is not positive thinking. We don’t conjure up the strength. The point is we are given real ability, strength, and usefulness.

The Escape Key. That wonderful key whose main function is to get you out of whatever you just got into. I teach computers, and everyday, I have a student that somehow, someway, gets into a menu that I have never seen before and have no idea what it does. The menu usually says something like “Click on OK if you would like to reinstall the entire system at this time” or “You have accessed a secured government system; any further tampering will cause your location to be bombed.” My advice is
always: “Use the Escape Key!”

Attitude

August 31st, 2008

The 92-year-old, petite, well-poised and proud lady, who is fully dressed each morning by eight o’clock, with her hair fashionably coifed and makeup perfectly applied, even though she is legally blind, moved to a nursing home today. Her husband of 70 years recently passed away, making the move necessary.

After many hours of waiting patiently in the lobby of the nursing home, she smiled sweetly when told her room was ready.

NOT YET

August 27th, 2008

Sometimes I ask the question, “My Lord, is this your will?”
It’s then I hear you answer me, “My Precious Child … be still.”

Sometimes I feel frustrated, cause I think I know what’s best.
It’s then I hear you say to me, “My Busy Child … just rest”

Sometimes I feel so lonely and I think I’d like a mate.
Your still small voice gets oh so clear and says, “My Child …
please
wait”
